My Week in Triathlon
My triathlon thought’s and learnings over the last week. Let me know what you think or if you have feedback or suggestions!
Oceanside 70.3 results:
Women 1) Tamara Jewett 4:08:09, 2) Chelsea Sodaro 4:09:31, 3) Kat Matthews 4:12:27
Men 1) Leo Bergere 3:45:25, 2) Jason West 3:45:37, 3) Jackson Laundry 3:47:38. Full results here
Oceanside titbits: Jewett’s swim and bike is now up there…with her 1:12:59 run she’s going to be hard to beat. Kat Matthews will be overwhelmingly proud of her results given her last few months. Findlay falters but don’t read too much into her result as her swim and bike were strong. West had both the 6th best swim and bike…and a 1:07:40 run!
Outside TV: The Oceanside live stream is under fire for being very buggy. Personally, it was largely unwatchable as every few minutes I got an error message. Better than nothing but let’s hope it improves before St. George on 6 May.
Tri Watchalong: Staying with watching Oceanside, The Daily Tri youtube channel hosted a live “watch along” which was fun to be a part of. Check out this fast-growing triathlon Youtube resource here
Sodaro Mental Health: The NY Times wrote an article on how Chelsea Sodaro fell into depression and anxiety after winning Kona last year. Article here
Chevalier on speed vs effort: Leon mentioned to Bevan McKinnon on the Fitter Radio podcast how important it is to “extract speed from the road” and go hard at the right time. He spoke about hearing Cam Wurf talk about pushing the hills as a tactic. Listen here
Race Ranger history: 220 Tri wrote a great article about the history behind Race Ranger and how much has gone into its development. P.S. it’s not just about drafting…this could be what gets us to have live real time data for Triathlon similar to Tour de France. Article here
Carbon shoes injuries: There is lots of talk about carbon super shoes increasing injuries. Eoin Everard (PHD in biomechanics and sub 4min miler) told Mark on the Brick Session podcast that he sees the opposite. He also said super shoes are better for “quad runners”. Link to pod here
