WTCS Montreal: Full Results here

Knibb had a 10s penalty due to missing the race briefing as she was away doing the US TT Champs - she ended up in 6th. Knibb also forced a breakaway on the bike with Rappaport. Mens previous winner Vilaca crashed on the bike and did well to finish in 30th. Blummenfelt made up a 31s deficit on the bike to come 5th. Iden struggled again in 32nd, bearing in mind his mother has recently passed away - read his post race post here. Hauser now in top 5 in the rankings after the biggest win of his career.

Wurf was in the lead pack in the swim, lead the bike (although largely matched by Hogenhaug) but saw his lead fade to 4th on the run. Hogenhaug pulled out halfway on the run after vomitting. Mignon made a statement for Nice WC - he rode within 3min of Wurf and ran 2:45. I made an error on Friday thinking Chevalier was racing and Wurf was not - apologies!

Men

🥇 Clement Mignon (8:17:39)

🥈 Bart Aernouts (8:24:11)

🥉 Jonas Hoffmann (8:27:24)

Watch the 15min race highlights here. Ryf broke Chrissie Wellington’s “worlds fastest time” by 10min after it stood since 2011. Behind her there was lots of shuffling between Philipp, Sodaro and Haug. Sodaro was last seen at 31km on the tracker after slipping from 2nd to 4th. Ditlev made the lead pack of the swim with him and Laidlow cycling “together” minutes ahead of the others for most of the day. They started the run 12min ahead of Kanute and Lange. Bakkegard had a mechanical and lost lots of time getting off the bike 16min behind along with Skipper and others. Laidlow stayed with Ditlev till 10km’s on the run but then faded to 8th. Ditlev’s time IS the worlds fastest IF you discount Blummenfelt’s controversial record in Cozumel due to the downstream swim.

Women

🥇 Daniela Ryf (8:08:21)

🥈 Anne Haug (8:21:09)

🥉 Laura Philipp (8:25:31)

🥇 Magnus Ditlev (7:24:40)

🥈 Patrick Lange (7:30:04)

🥉 Ben Kanute (7:37:01)

Elsinore 70.3: Full Results here

The run decided the outcome with the top 2 ladies swapping the lead and always being within 30s of each other. Mitchell took the lead for the final time with 7km to go and held on to win by 25s. Race favourite Vesterby pulled out on the run due to a hip issue.

Women

🥇 Olivia Mitchell (4:05:21)

🥈 Anna Bergsten (4:05:46)

🥉 Kate Curran (4:09:27)

Other Bullets:

  • Tri vs Cycling: Last week I mentioned Taylor Knibb and Paula Findlay were racing their National TT Champs…well Paula won (Canada) and Taylor came 4th (USA).

  • No Static: Speaking of Paula Findlay…check out this short 2min video her partner put out here. How epic is the quality bearing in mind Eric is a top level pro and came 2nd at Alcatraz last weekend!

  • Golf as an example: Trimes recently posted an article in french comparing the current power struggle between PTO and Ironman to that of what golf has just gone through with the breakaway LIV tour. See post here - most web browsers can easily translate into English but let me know if anyone needs help.

  • Spivey Bad B!tch: For those of you that are on Spotify you can add Taylor Spivey’s created playlist called “Bad b!tch” that she recently shared here

  • Froome dropped: In not triathlon news, multiple winner of the Tour de France Chris Froome has not been chosen by Israel-Premier Tech for this weekends start. Froome insists he is good enough but mechanical issues let to bad performances.

  • I Think: …if I prioritised being able to train consistently for a year I would be a far better triathlete than thinking I’m a pro and doing hard intervals only to get niggles or injured and have months of training compromised.

  • I Know: …the ONLY year I have never had injury issues and performed my best was when I was doing Pilates regularly. I stopped 3 years ago and my “chassis” has been very fragile ever since. I’m about to start a training block next week…maybe more pilates and less swim/bike/run?

Data

I love a good hypothetical. Currently, the highest PTO points I’ve seen on the new ranking model is the 99.00 points Anne Haug got at PTO Ibiza. I’ve calculated that Daniela Ryf’s record breaking time at Challenge Roth will equate to 99.12. So, hypothetically, how many points would she get if Ash Gentle, LCB and Taylor Knibb were all racing at Roth and all came behind Anne Haug? This will push the races SOF up from 89.35 to 93.52. And the new number of PTO Points:

100.99

🫠

For those that haven’t seen it, I built a PTO points calculator to satisfy these exact hypothetical and somewhat pointless exercises. You can find it here.
