My Week in Triathlon

My triathlon thoughts and learnings over the last week. Let me know what you think or if you have feedback or suggestions!

  • Americas Cup St Peters results:

    • Women 1) Katie Zaferes, 2) Gwen Jorgensen, 3) Amelie Kretz

    • Men 1) Charles Paquet, 2) Jeremy Briand, 3) Darr Smith

  • Americas Cup titbits: Zaferes got a small gap on the swim, rode solo on the bike and had the second fastest run to win by 50s. Jorgensen was happy with her swim and the fastest run (apart from Alvarez Corral who has disqualified).

  • Kipchoge at Boston: Not triathlon related but keep your eye on the Boston Marathon which is happening today (Monday 17th). Can the weather play its part and open the door to Kipchoge breaking the course record? Boston and NY are the only two marathon “majors” that he hasn’t won.

  • Hot Takes vs Dumb Takes: I’m probably reading too much into this, but “traditional” journalists Kelly o’Mara (ex Triathlete Magazine) and Tim Heming (220 Tri) might be having a go at “new media”. The podcast Pro Tri News tends to lean in hard on “Hot Takes” which is essentially a bunch of predictions or other notable observations. The Pro Tri News podcast is hosted by Kyle Glass, Talbot Cox, Chelsea Burns, Pat Lemieux (husband to Gwen) and Mark Matthews (husband to Kat). Have a look at the tweet below, what do you think?

  • PTO Ibiza on your marks: The PTO has announced the start lists for their first race of 2023 on 6 May. The overwhelming feeling is “I cannot freaking wait” but there are still unfortunately a few star names missing (Iden, Long, Sanders). See the pictures at the bottom of the email for more details. PTO strategy starting to unfold… 👀

  • The Daily Tri: Travis has been putting out some great videos lately. Have a look at his latest one where, amongst other things, he goes through the start list and his predictions for PTO Ibiza. Watch here

That's it for today, now finish your oats and get back to training! If you have any feedback or suggestions, please reply and let me know!
